Have you ever talked to someone that does drugs? Marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, whatever. They tell you why they do it. It feels good. It alters their perceptions. It takes their mind off of their problems.

Having been a part of the church scene, I can tell you that there are similarities. There’s a euphoria about being “filled with the spirit.” It feels great to be a part of something larger than life. You hang out with people that don’t disagree with you because you all believe the same thing. What a great feeling. You give your problems to God so that you don’t have to worry about them.

Drug dealers want you to buy what they’re selling and get hooked so that they can continue to make money off of you. Church people want you to “accept Jesus” so that you’ll go their church and put money in the offering plate.

Perhaps I’m being unfair. Maybe this could be applied to any number of things, but the comparison between faith and drugs just struck me.

Am I an atheist now?  No, but I like the way they think.

How does that make you feel?
