Half broken is worse than completely broken.

very old thermostat

Have you ever had something in your life that worked most of the time?  Not all of the time, but most of the time. Isn’t that the worst?  As soon as you ask someone to fix it, of course it will be working then. It only stops working when you’re the only one around.

Here’s an example from my life. My AC unit works most of the time. The problem is that the fan doesn’t always kick in, so the cooling part will be running and running and accomplishing nothing. This usually happens about 4am, so I wake up in a sweat. The tricks available to me to get it to work are as follows:

  • Turn it off for 7 seconds, then turn it on during the 8th second. This has to be precise.
  • Turn the temperature setting off and turn the fan from Auto to On.
  • Turn it on heat, and then after it has run for a few seconds, adjust the temperature and switch it back to cold.

Where did I learn these tricks? From the maintenance people here at my apartment complex. It isn’t completely broken, so they allegedly can’t fix it.

What annoying things do you deal with regularly that work “most of the time”? Feel free to vent in the comments.

How does that make you feel?
