I haven’t talked about my cat much recently. I knew when the time was right, I’d tell the story. Now feels like the right time to talk about how he went missing 4 months ago. But first, let’s start at the beginning. Read the rest of this entry »

When I’m reading something, and I see *, that tells me I don’t yet have enough information to make an informed decision. There are other details outside of the main text I need to find and read before I decide if this is right for me. This is why I chose the asterisk for my first tattoo. I think of it like a shorthand for “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” At first glance, you get one perspective, but there’s so much more you don’t even know until you decide to go beyond that first glance.

Every once in awhile, I get the itch to do a little research. It seems most of what is represented for beards is the beard/mustache combo. This, of course, results in me getting the occasional question about why I don’t have a mustache or jokes about me sporting an Amish Metal look (which I may have started?). I decided to start looking online, and here’s what I found out. Read the rest of this entry »

A few weeks ago at Welcome To Rockville, I observed more people using blankets than I recall from previous years. One of the stages (there were 4 total) had more open lawn space than the others, and people took advantage of this. It was an interesting thing to witness. Read the rest of this entry »
Time has not been on my side lately… Not really in a bad way, but things have been busy. So here I am 2 weeks later without having written another post. It’s time to take a break for the holidays.
See you in 2016 with more thoughts and stories.
So I’m 40… now what? Oh yeah, I guess it’s time for a midlife crisis. But really, I don’t think I have anything to worry about. Read the rest of this entry »
It’s been awhile since I’ve written about being single, so I’ve been thinking about it lately. Not that it’s ever been the sole motivation for what I do or post, but in the past I’ve tried to portray myself in contrast to friends that were bemoaning not being in a relationship. Not to rub their face in anything, but to say, “Hey, look over here. I’m having a good time… by myself.” Well, things change. Read the rest of this entry »
You’ve heard it before, right? You’re going thru a rough time, and someone tries to comfort you by saying, “You’ll get thru this. All things work together for good.” But that’s… not exactly true, is it? Read the rest of this entry »

Sadly, this post is not about breakfast. I was searching for a Parental Advisor pic and found this and thought it was pretty fucking hilarious.
You’re probably thinking, “It’s a little late for a dislaimer, isn’t it?” Well, my blog, my rules, so whenever I decide to do something is the right time. [insert emoji with tongue sticking out] Here goes nothing… Read the rest of this entry »

Scars are reminders
Reminders not always of pain
But even when pain, not always bad pain
Not all scars are physical
Not all scars are private
Some things that were not scars become scars later
Our social media accounts are the scrapbooks of our lives
You have memories with so and so from 2 years ago
What will you do with these reminders
Just because you’re holding a knife
Doesn’t mean you have to cut or bleed
You could make a sandwich
You could do something positive
Just because you can open up old wounds
Doesn’t mean that you should
Sometimes old wounds are there for you to learn from so that you don’t make new ones
